Internet Marketing Techniques — How to Create Great Web Content

August 21, 2013

Content marketing is about the consistent creation and delivery of quality written content that is both original and relevant to your audience. When creating content for a website, the following questions are a great place to start in your content development:

Why are people coming to your site?

Understand the reason people are coming to your website. Generally it is for a product or service that your business offers. A well designed website will make it easy to find and access them. Customers coming to your website will want to know specific information about your products and services, have questions answered, and either purchase right away or be directed to where they can do so.

Stellar content will offer easy to ready information that educates, answers question, and instructs customers on specific products features or how-to’s.

Some common types of content that works well on websites:

  • Frequently asked questions (FAQ’s)
  • How to articles/content
  • Testimonials  and case studies
  • Tips and tricks
  • Lists and “Top Ten” style articles
  • People-centered content (Use quotes, stories etc.)

What basic questions should your content address?

Take the time to sit down and think about what your business offers. What questions are your customers asking? What questions have you been asked already? What kind of information would be useful for your customers to know? What are the features that you offer? What about the price...people want to know the value of items! Are there any reoccurring topics or themes that you can address?

What you write should be based on the questions your customers are asking. If you have no idea what these are, do your research and find out! If you don’t have time or the resources to, hire an internet marketing company to do it for you.

What is duplicate content, and why does it matter?

First and foremost, is your written content original? If it is copy and pasted from another website, big problem! Aside from the fact that it is plagiarism, search engines will ding you big time for publishing “duplicate content.” Make sure that whatever you publish online belongs to you, has been written by you (or for you) and does not infringe on any copyrights.

Another common problem is “re-spinning.” Basically it is taking content from somewhere else and re-writing it for your own use. A lot more subtle than plagiarising, it might pass web-tools like Copyscape that check for duplicate content, but ultimately it is not original, and will tend on generalizing topics. Your readers will benefit and appreciate genuine and specific articles related to your business and your customer’s needs.

Being patient pays off

Content marketing takes time. It is not an instant result. If you put the time and effort into consistently publishing original quality content, you WILL see results, and your site WILL be full of great information that your clients will benefit from. Take the time to write at least 2 original pieces that you can publish each month that follow what we’ve posted here and you’ll be well on your way to ranking by having great content.

If you don’t have the time or quality writers, hire a Montreal internet marketing company who can do it for you. Not only will they know how to do so successfully, you will have the assurance that it is being consistently.
