New trend: voice optimization

September 19, 2019

Technology is evolving at a very high speed. As soon as you get used to a trend, a new one is added to the list. In recent years, we have got to know Alexa, Siri, Cortana, Bixby and others. These virtual assistants are disrupting our search engine optimization (SEO) practices. It is estimated that by 2020, about 40% of all research will be done by voice. Thus, we must adapt our SEO techniques to the evolution of the market and be ready for any sudden change.

Research is done differently

A search that is done in writing is very different from a search that is done vocally. Generally, when we search using a keyboard, we will use only a few keywords to illustrate our request. However, orally, we tend to ask a question. Let's make an example of it. You are looking for a sushi restaurant in Montreal. In writing, you will probably write: "Restaurant sushi Montréal". While using a voice assistant the search would look more like: "What is the best sushi restaurant in Montreal?" As can be seen, the search is much longer. Thus, a simple optimization where we add a few keywords here and there is no longer appropriate for today's SEO.

A single answer

When we do a traditional search, Google offers us several different links to meet our request. However, when this request is made orally, the virtual assistant gives only one answer. So, in order for your website to be chosen as the only replica, you must ensure that your content is clear, relevant and meets the demand.

An easy-to-use technique would be to create a FAQ page (frequently asked questions) or a FAQ section on important pages with specific questions and answers related to your product or service. This allows the different search engines to quote you during a voice search.

Mobile Trend

The majority of voice searches are performed on a mobile device. As a result, the mobile version of your website should be well designed and optimal. Search engines will thus prioritize these when searching by voice.

Local research

Since most searches done on mobile phones or using a voice assistant are local in nature, you should make sure that your website is well optimized for them. To do this, add relevant keywords focused on the geolocation of your company.
